DIRECTORS STATEMENT

As a genre film CARCASS is a pure-blooded horror film. Its elements of suspense are built on human's natural fear of solitude, dark forest and the unknown. In the beginning of the story the magnificent natural landscapes are presented as the equivalence of the modern human's romantic perception of nature. Little by little with our protagonist the viewer loses all the benefits and security of society. All connections to the world out side, to civilization, are severed.

The world of the protagonist shrinks down to the claustrophobic environment of the hide and the horrifying fact is that she cannot escape from the forest. Moment by moment the oppressing unknown threat draws closer. All of us can identify with the fear of a dark forest and especially a situation where we would have to face that fear alone. Isolated in the woods it is revealed how strange an element the nature with its sounds and visions truly is to the modern human. The actual element of shock is the malevolent spirit of the forest appearing in the woods, impossible to exist by common sense. The spirit of the forest however has a known history in one way or another in the form of several folk tales.

Stories that still exist in the sub-consciousness of the modern human. It is easy to laugh at these beliefs at home under the shine of the electric lights, but alone in the dark forest they are more than easy to believe. One of the themes of the film is how in solitude and isolation a human must face himself, his actions and their possible consequences. Another important point of view is the estranged and abusive relationship that modern human has to nature. All this in the form of an entertaining horror film.
